Head's up, if you want to disconnect the bridge to Bluesky, here are the instructions. I exercised this option today, as a result of them "blue checking" ICE. I'd never allow Federation of an ActivityPub instance with Nazis on it, and Bluesky is no exception. #Bluesky

It is a nice tool and solid effort to expand communities by Ryan, who has worked on bridgy for 14 years, but this particular bridge no longer serves an ethical purpose.

@kevinrns The developers of the bridge are respectful of opt in. And, since this is a public service, tools can easily be used to suck down everyone's posts... but we don't need to help them, and we definitely don't need to provide a reason for people to be on there if they're allowing Nazis.

@bitchboss I suspect that will work. Sad it has to get to this point, but they don't seem to have any desire to keep those folks off that platform. It's one thing when you're talking "political differences are okay" and it's another when you have outright white supremacist posts and propaganda coming out of an account.

I have been on Twitter, and I was on BlueSky before and during the regime change. It is wise to protect your own user group or community from hatred and intolerance. That may be sad, but it is also my responsibility to protect those I host (including my own LGBTIQ+ ars).

@ai6yr Sadly there’s a bunch of accounts I follow via the bridge to Bluesky. Bluesky do better! Probably will disconnect the bridge, and view posts on Bluesky directly if their posts are public ( eg. don’t need a Bluesky account to view) .

Why didn't you block only certain accounts? Eventhough I won't invite nazis for tea, I won't pretend they are not part of humanity. On the contrary: I need to be aware of them for my safety. They have just as much right to any type of account for purposes of communication as anyone else. I prefer a platform that lets them show what they really are over one that excludes people from the start. I only object to special favours for them. So far, Bluesky is not giving them any, is it?

@ai6yr I don’t get this. I want to know what an official government outlet is. Especially if I need to know what they are thinking for my personal safety. Not hearing what the Ministry of Truth is saying to everyone else is a bad idea IMHO. There is no algorithm that will force me to get overly influenced by their garbage.

I know I've blocked things before, but I can't figure out where I'm supposed to put the words to do that!

@Bette @ai6yr Cool, if I remember correctly, in mastodon in a browser, you search for the username you want to block, and then you look for the ui element for blocking them. It might be in a menu. Hope that helps, if not perhaps someone who uses mastodon in a webbrowser can send a screenshot. (I am on my phone using the Mastodon for Android client.)

So, would I use the @ that @ai6yr posted, @bsky.brid.gy? I'm feeling so brain dead right now. When I blocked Threads, it seemed like I just typed Threads into a block list and done.
