Credit where it’s due: Shitification by @pluralistic nudged me here, and it’s the best platform detour I’ve taken in a while. I’d abandoned social media during the pandemic, and a brief comeback confirmed I hadn’t missed much. Analog life demands nuance; timelines demand CAPS. Mastodon feels like virtual Vipassana: quiet, voluntary, and not yet optimized for rage. May it remain un-shitified.

@vlua_hei @pluralistic - Welcome!

This is the benefit of opt-in vs. opt-out by default. And I believe it's a pattern that could afford to be more broadly applied to many things.

Social graphs and feeds shouldn't be passive and involuntary. They should be intentional.

@vlua_hei @pluralistic There's a fair bit of rage here, but it's rage with a good purpose. Destructive rage either fizzles or, when posted with malice, moderated.

Welcome.

@vlua_hei @pluralistic We still have nuances here, I like to think.

Welcome :-)
