I spent the first full week of the year by myself in a little holiday cottage near Hoenderloo. I often tend to plan holidays full of activities, and especially when I'm in a larger city or someplace further away I want to see and do ALL THE THINGS! And usually I have a great time, but it's not actually a great way for me to recharge. To get inspired and come up with lots of new ideas sure, but to rest not so much…. The last few months I've felt quite tired and a little burned out, but suddenly I realised that this was what I needed: a get away just by myself in a place that actually wouldn't allow me to do too many things😂 The area around Hoenderloo is a great place for hiking, and I brought with me lots of books, some art supplies, swimming gear and my tablet for watching films, but other than that there were not too many activities available to me to distract me. A good exercise in living in the moment a little more, instead of constantly thinking about all the cool things I COULD be doing… (or starting a million things, but never finishing them😅)

I rented a place during the cheapest week possible, and actually not that far from my own home so that I would be able to cycle there. The weather had other plans however, so cycling wasn't the best idea anymore and instead my father dropped me off, but I got to spent the entire week in the snow! Absolutely a wonderful start to the year and I felt so lucky being able to enjoy the snow so much ❄️

1. Pancakes for breakfast!
2. View from the window on my first morning there. Trees!😍 And Snow!🤩
3. Setting up my bullet journal for the new year (maybe I'll stick with it this time! Maybe…)
4. Cosy evenings in front of the fireplace
5. Someone paid me a visit during the night...
6. Cooking just what I feel like eating: chickpea curry🤤
7. This lovely trail was actually on the holiday park itself…
8. Writing postcards, because I love snailmail📬
9. Finally finished The Silmarillion! I think I actually already started this book in 2023😂
10. Again, cooking just what I like! When I mention legumes, my family generally don't tend to get too excited😂 These veggies with black beans and teriyaki sauce tasted great though, if I say so myself🤤
11. Doodling with water colours while watching a series. I love drawing and painting with acrylics, but water colours kinda intimidate me🙈 This time, I was able to let go of any expectations and just enjoy the process. I actually really enjoyed myself and hope to be doing more of this this year😄
@decibelsummer Oooh beautiful surroundings to be snowed in for a week!
Yes! I felt so lucky with the timing👌😄
Everything about this sounds perfect. We tend to forget how important it is for us (as humans) to spend time in and with nature. Drawn back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, surrounded by beauty and silence. I"m happy you got to recharge your batteries at the beginning of the year. Now off to a great 2026!!!
Yes, so important! Thank you🙏 And a great 2026 for you as well!✨
Thank you 😊
@decibelsummer Klinkt heerlijk!
@decibelsummer Elluk foordeel hep se… ;)
Sounds like a great way to recharge! I think the snow also reinforces to slow down.
It was wonderful!❄️ And that's definitely true! Lots of things take more time or have to be postponed because of the weather, but even the fact that the snow seems to muffle sounds a bit gives the world a quite different feel❄️
