custom mandolin strap with old junk laying around

@dannotdaniel is that the 305? I drool over these, but I won't spend the money till I'm a better player. And the strap is perfect for it. Gorgeous.

@revoluciana yes - the 305 yes indeed - I love it!

mostly I'll be playing jigs, hornpipes, reels etc. I can pick my way through the simple ones pretty well, but double stops and chop chords are newer for me. Learning all about Turlough O'Carolan...

@dannotdaniel this is awesome! Any tips for a relative beginner who's teaching herself and can play some arpeggios and scales and a couple jigs? I've been avoiding any chords for as long as possible because it's basically the only thing I ever played on guitar and I don't want to fall into that trap too soon.

I've followed along on some of David Benedict's stuff and MandoLessons, and otherwise just read the music in the fiddler's fakebook, but that's about it.

@dannotdaniel oh! And mine's The Loar-- the Honey Creek model (A). I call her Ursula K. Mandolin. She's very much a beginner model, but I really enjoy playing on her.
@revoluciana a beautiful instrument!

@revoluciana @dannotdaniel
Another Eastman 305 and another beginner here! The other one in the picture is Sweet Pea travel mando.

@revoluciana tips... well as a beginner myself here I really enjoy getting together with other players.

my dad plays weekly with a group, and when I'm in town I go along. I can almost hold my own picking out some of the tunes... it's a real great motivator.

They start every session with "Da Lounge Bar" which is a great beginner tune - here's a recording of it we both enjoyed (not us, but the same tune)

@dannotdaniel I like it! I use a guitar strap from the 90s, but at least the buckle is rusty.
@djohngo hah! post a pic of your setup?
