Hey #fountainpen peeps, does anyone here have an #Opus88 Omar? Do you have any suggestions? There is currently one up for auction at a reasonable price, and I'm quite intrigued by it. It's not a demonstrator; it's a yellow and brown one with a clear cap and a medium-sized nib. This would be my first Japanese-style eyedropper.
@gisiger (Opus88 are taiwanese.) I really like the two I have, the Blue whale demo and a Mini. When I got the Blue Whale I was going whoa at the size of it, I've since learnt that the Omar is even bigger. Look up the size and consider whether that would work for you. If not, one of the more normal sized Opus88s is definitely something I'd recommend for the future. I especially like the shutoff valve (similar to the twsbi vac).
@silhelm After the original post, I did some reading and noticed the size, too. However, I am still intrigued by the pen as it could become my go-to desk pen. The bigger the ink capacity, the better.
@gisiger If you are comfortable writing with that thickness pen, I don't see why not!
@gisiger @silhelm I have 3 Omars, and 5 or 6 other Opus 88 models.
The Omars are large and girthy. They hold a LOT of ink, and isn't prone to burping. They don't really want to post securely, which is just as well, cuz that would make them unwieldy IMHO. They're not heavy tho. I have small hands but i still find them comfy to write with. The nib units are easy to swap. If the Omar is too large, there are smaller models. Some of the minis are really cute.
