@shukugawarablog @npr Just like every other state in the US, they are integral parts of the US which is a NATO member so an attack on them activates article 5.
This is a simplification of course.
@shukugawarablog @npr As far as I can tell, yes. Because even though their internal political situation is different they are still part of a NATO member and attacking them will result in NATO retaliation.
Or, well It should result in that. But we shall see.
