I decided against trying to get a jointer and planer in my tiny workshop and got an old stanely jack plane. I am also keeping my eyes peeled for a number 4 plane also.
If I ever end up getting the cash together to build my workshop maybe ill get a power planer but I also don't wood work enough for that, and recycling tools that ate older than I am just feels right.

@kusuriya That's a great approach. It's too easy to fall into the trap of getting tools for the tools' sake, rather by the requirements of actual projects.
@kusuriya I'd say it's not too bad to use hand tools for edge jointing, but for face jointing a thickness planer+sled save an insane amount of time (assuming you're working from rough cut lumber).
@fundamental I want to use more rough cut stuff I just haven't found a decent lumber yard near me so I deal with what the big box gives me :(
@kusuriya I know that feeling. For years I was spoiled by being within walking distance of a great supplier and now usually end up getting material from a place a few hours away.
@kusuriya Also have a look to see if you have a ‘tool library’ near you. They’re great if you need a tool for a project but can’t justify buying your own tool!
