My #AnimeOfTheYear is… #ZENSHU. It was just great from beginning to end, well written character, thoughtful, emotional.

And on the manga front: #MangaOfTheYear has to be #IchiTheWitch - there is just nothing about it that I would change, I love the world and the characters and how both plays together.

There were, of course, other good manga and anime.

As for anime, I’m finding that I prefer finished stories where we are not waiting for another season that might or might not come. Of course only if they have a proper, well-fitting ending.
It just happens too easily that something is off to a great start and then falls down, either because the writer is unwilling or unable to wrap it up properly, or because it is wrapped up too quickly, or just in a bad way.

Strangely, I don’t have as much of an internal barrier when nominating unfinished manga. Maybe it’s just the difference that most anime “end” when the story is not finished, while Manga are just ongoing continuously.

As of anime, the other 2 I considered as Anime of the Year were #ToBeHeroX and #MaebashiWitches.
The first being mind-blowingly creative with its visual presentation but also a story that came together by increasingly intertwining stories of individual characters. I enjoyed it a lot! The main reason I didn’t place it is that it feels incomplete because the story is not yet over.

The other being a well rounded story about girls who each have their own issues and overcome them in meaningful ways while learning to understand each other.
The main reason I didn’t place it is because I initially dropped it after one episode and had to be told about its merits before picking it up again.

As for manga, 2 others that I really enjoyed this year and would like to mention:
#Imanin aka #Shinewbie which just ended on New Year’s Eve. A very cute romance between adult characters that were just the character types that I love seeing interact.
Also, #OurNotSoLonelyPlanetTravelGuide which I read after it started being published in German this year. I love seeing all the different places while reading a story about two adults reconfirming their relationship. It’s also good in discussing the struggles of various queer people that they meet on their journey.
@yellowjitsch @apc I've always been curious about Ichi the Witch but can't understand what kind of series it is. How would you describe it?
@prex I guess I’m not good at selling it but basically a magical adventure with a unique system of how witches acquire and use magic. And overall great characters that I find really easy to sympathize with and care about.
