I've been curious about the holoFocus feature they added to the 6th Fes Blu-rays.

They're separate discs, packaged neatly in individual jewel cases at the bottom of the box. Each one has renders of a few multi-performer songs from each stage, with options to let you pick which talent you want cameras to focus on. So for example you can watch Advent's Rebellion but with Mococo in the middle of every shot.

Also neat: you can open a popup menu mid-song and change focus to a different performer without having to start the performance over. It makes me wish my player had an "Angle" button like ye olde DVD remotes.

They're renders of the virtual stage only, without integrating the band and other real-world elements, which makes me wonder again if they're dedicated renders rather than the stage director's offcuts. To be confident of that I'd have to find identical angles and compare the two side-by-side looking for telling differences, and I'm not quite that dedicated to the question

Finally getting around to rewatching Stage 1 on these discs and reliving the WTF moment of the cube descending for the first time and Suisei opening the whole event with Stellar Stellar. It was less than a year ago, but it’s hitting me with a big wallop of nostalgia. This was such an amazing event.

Fuwamoco, though. Gyakkō no Flügel. In 20 years time I hope someone writes a full biography of these two. It’s incredible to think how hard they had to work to convince Cover to give them that slot. I see them now and just think “How could you not?!” It’s like they were born into mocap suits, it’s almost worrying sometimes how dedicated they are!

Finished Stage 1 disc rewatch with snifffles and red eyes. And there weren’t even any grads on Stage 1! It’s not sadness, just feeling a lot of appreciation I think.

I don’t know exactly why live shows of anime puppets singing idol music strikes my heart like this, but apparently I really adore them.

Stage 2 today. Opening with Kanata standing right in front of Shion in the lineup for Capture The Moment. “We are with you…” oof.

I’d forgotten about Polka’s insane choice to immediately follow that up with Po. Literally the second song of the concert after the group opening. Still cracks me up. Impossible not to love her.

Shion’s performance in the cube now. I remember posting about this at the time, her Fes performances always really sparkled and this one was especially good. Great song to part on, too.

Stage 2 rewatch done! A lot of great performances and song choices but Kanata’s Fallen Wing stole the show for me. Can’t help thinking how Ridin’ On Dreams is going to be emotional for the audience and talents alike. I’m sure it’ll be a blast but we’ll all raise a glass. Tube. With a little colored light in it. Well of course.
