My best estimate is 90% of people that try Mastodon run away screaming within the first 90 days and that's a feature, not a bug.

About 54 days and a lot of instances for me.

I ended up on akkoma & misskey forks; 99 percent misskey forks. I still instance hop occasionally, but only if one closes.
I tend to stick to 4.
Here is the longest i've been on a single instance actually - 825 days and counting.

No idea how that skews your theory.

Just a random theory 🤷.

Which does beg the question, are the peeps on mastodon social okay? Have they been consumed by sentient fungus or eaten by zombies?

I was in that group, but decided to give Mastodon a second chance for some unknown reason. Tried a couple of different instances (before I really understood the term) and have now stuck with it - and am still screaming!
