Another cotton thread. Hehe I didn’t even mean to make a pun. I checked the tree today and notice many bolls had burst, with more to come. I’m pretty amazed at what this plant has produced in just six months, from seed. 🧵 #Zone10 #NativePlants #Florida #FiberArts
Now that I’ve learned to spin the fibers, I understand the importance of taking greater care when removing the seeds because this cotton already has a very short staple (less than 1”). The first time I ginned this cotton, I was way more rough and I ended up tearing many of the fibers. I was still able to spin them, though. 🧵 #Fibers #FiberArts #NativePlants #spinning
Today, I taught myself to ply. After watching a couple of YouTube videos, I devised a #DIY method using my three homemade spindles, a cardboard box and a bit of duct tape. Probably seems like a very clunky method to those of you who have professional tools, but I'm actually quite excited about this free setup. #spinning #fibers #fiberarts

I finally got through #spinning and plying all of the cotton that I grew, plus the stuff I found roadside in Georgia. I discarded my first ball of spun thread because it was too thick and irregular since I was just learning.

This is my first experience working with fibers. It really makes you appreciate all that goes into producing a piece of cloth, or even the readymade rolags that you can buy.

I’ve slowly begun relearning how to crochet. Trying for some small beginner doilies. #FiberArts

@PermaSolarPotter This is fantastic, really fun to watch you on this adventure
@PermaSolarPotter There is something very satisfying in creating a solution that works, all by yourself, using your ingenuity.
@kerravonsen It is. But, to be fair, I did browse the Internet to see how other people do it. No need to reinvent the wheel :)
