This crazy document will use #LaTeX for most of it, but #heirloom #doctools for the diagrams. Why? Because I already have a library for #pic and a #Makefile, and I am not afraid to use them. #GraphicsMagick seems to handle converting #PostScript to EPS better than #GhostScript in my situation?! 😕

Yes, I had tried #MetaPost for diagrams. The boxes package was minimally helpful but with what I had in mind, it would probably not work out well. Perhaps #tikz is worth a look someday?

It doesn't work the same as ye olde #pic but #TikZ looks to provide enough for drawing square-gridded maps. The grid-drawing feature certainly helps, and the scaling is good enough. This is definitely a better fit for this #LaTeX document. #Bonus, it's not #onerous to include the pictures inline in #orgmode.
