Rounding out the year with some #2025 faves. I’ve made tough choices and submitted votes for #TripleJ #Hottest100
I read 81 books (approximately) in 2025. My most read author is #GeorgetteHeyer - who I comfort read frequently!
My favourite non-fic was The Rise & Reign of Mammals by palaeontologist Steve Brusatte. A follow up to his book on dinosaurs which was equally fascinating.
My favourite children’s book was Stonewitch by Sky McKenna. Book four of her excellent hedgewitch series. My 10yo & I adore them! Great characters and world building based on myths from the British isles. @bookstodon #books #reading

My favourite newer fiction was Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. Astonishing, profound and moving. A novella that perfectly captures a specific place at a specific time and reveals much about humanity.
And 14 of those books were #audiobooks. My favourite of which was Nights at the Circus read by Adjoa Andoh. Superb narration of this unusual work of magical realism. #reading

My favourite movies from our family Saturday movie were:
Suzume - an unusual anime featuring supernatural earthquakes, demonic cats, hilarious shapeshifting and an ending that has moved me to tears both times I watched it.
Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man. Not as funny as the previous two but plenty of humour and its message of tolerance and forgiveness - for those who seek it - a timely remind for us all in these fairly troubled times.
Finally, our fave TV shows of the year. The biggest hit with our family was #PhysicalAsia The incredible feats of strengths and endurance and good sportsmanship had us hooked!
Honourable mention to #Sherlock but we only just watched the first episode last night. Kids loved it (unsurprisingly because Sherlock Holmes is one of our 10yo’s special interests)
@FrancescaJ @bookstodon Hi! What do you use to keep track of the books you read? A custom spreadsheet or a specific app, any tips?
@tufekoi @bookstodon I use StoryGraph (app). You can add start & finish dates, review books or give star ratings. You need at least a finish date to get it included in your yearly stats
