This week's #TuneTuesday is #GetItNow
Songs that made you understand why folks liked a band.

I remember hating the idea of grunge generally and Soundgarden specifically. Didn't trust it. Sell out. Other things.

Then I was at the 930 club in DC at a Swiz show I think & I heard Jesus Christ Pose between bands. I was like, "Oh! Metal! Why didn't you say so?"

Plus Badmotorfinger is objectively better than their earlier records anyway.

@D_J_Nathanson swiz @ 930!!!Did you ever see Dag Nasty? I grew up in the DMV but this was all before my time 😢
@shotgunseamstress I didn't see Dag Nasty. They were inactive for the years I was in DC 89-92. Plus, while their first album was great, I had negative feelings about them. I was very suspicious of how they kicked out Shawn Brown (who is Black) and replaced him with Dave Smalley (who is white). I mean "Lies aren't exercises" as a Swiz lyric was pretty umistakable. So I chose Swiz in the divorce. Plus I went to college with the Swiz drummer Alex who was the most lovable goofball ever. Great guy.
@D_J_Nathanson right on. I wrote about Shawn Brown in my zine. I was never close enough to the drama to care but I love the Shawn brown era of dag nasty and was stoked when Discord reissued Dag with Shawn.
@D_J_Nathanson did you go to Georgetown for law school?
@shotgunseamstress No, Rutgers-Newark. The people's law school! I only applied there and nowhere else because they had the only animal rights law clinic in the USA at the time.
@shotgunseamstress @D_J_Nathanson I’ve seen Dag Nasty of the Field Day tour in Rockford IL. Thinking of DC bands I’ve seen, Soulside, Hoover, Severin, Government Issue, Jawbox, Nation of Ulysses, Lungfish, Shudder to Think, Kingface, Scream, Fugazi, Bad Brains… do the Meatmen count?
@fistfulofdave @D_J_Nathanson my era was more like The Makeup, Q & not U, Lungfish, Fugazi, Faraquet, El Guapo (turned into Supersystem), Quix*o*tic, ABCs, Chromtech, TransAm, Ted Leo, The Dismemberment Plan…
@shotgunseamstress @D_J_Nathanson I’ve seen Trans Am, always forget non-Discord adjacent band. I’ve also seen Dismemberment Plan, they toured with The Promise Ring.
@fistfulofdave @shotgunseamstress Don't know those, but I know of the promise ring.
@D_J_Nathanson @fistfulofdave I can make a pretty good guess at everyone’s age in this thread based on what bands you know or got to see 😃 it’s like the full range of GenX up in here.
@shotgunseamstress @fistfulofdave I went to shows pretty non-stop so I saw pretty much anyone who was active in DC/DMV. Hell, I interviewed Krack. No ragrets. That album was great.
@D_J_Nathanson @fistfulofdave I’ve never even heard of Krack!

@shotgunseamstress @fistfulofdave Baltimore band on Merkin. Their album "Funkwagon McGuillicuddy" is ridiculous evil punk/metal. (No funk.) Pick it up if you ever see it. I see no evidence of it on the web. I saw the Moss Icon hippie offshoot Breathing Walker. There was a band you couldn't avoid in DC called Scooter Trash. Oh my god, they were so bad.

Edit: Krack discogs. Palace on the Moon was the jam.

@fistfulofdave @shotgunseamstress Jealous, never saw Kingface.

But I did see Rain Like The Sound of Trains and had dinner at Dug E. Bird’s house and he said my peanut butter date fudge was ā€œsmokinā€™ā€ so I got that going for me.

@D_J_Nathanson @shotgunseamstress I was a big Verbal Assault fan got to see them a few times. I believe the guitar player went on to RLTSOT
@fistfulofdave @shotgunseamstress I really only liked one RLTSOT song, "School" which was so much better live than recorded. Total anthem live. Not really a fan of Verbal Assault, which got me lots of side-eye from fellow punks.
@D_J_Nathanson @shotgunseamstress I love the Trial album but we can’t all like everything.
@D_J_Nathanson this is the last Soundgarden album I love, my favorite is Ultramega OK.
@fistfulofdave I think Superunknown has multiple good songs on it.
