Photo's from yesterday's OlieBollenTocht. It's an annual bicycle tour for velomobiles, held at the end of December when oliebollen are available. These are a kind of donut traditionally served for New Year's Eve in the Netherlands. For the first time ever, the tour was in Groningen. This meant that the start was less than 50 km from my home, so I went along this year (previously I've taken part in Zwolle and Utrecht but often it's too far from home so I don't take part).

A few photos from the journey to and from the start point. I rode to the start on my own, and rode most of the way back with @twilwel
And that was it. A very enjoyable day with a really nice group tour of about 65 km and a total of 162 km for me.

@casperjansen It's a prototype from InterCityBike. Ymte is under the orange hat, with his dog alongside. I like the design a lot. It's compact and has a huge cargo capacity under that dark coloured hood in the rear.

@hembrow Did het tell anything about the bike? It looks like the old prototype with covers on the wheel. Does it use the new shifting system?

@hembrow Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I was under the impression that the advantage of velomobiles over bicycles is they let you hit higher top speeds in the country, at the cost of being more annoying in stop & go urban traffic. A lot of your velomobile photos appear to be on small bike paths where I wouldn't want to go faster than a bicycle, in part because I would be worried about hitting cyclists or pedestrians. Could you help me understand how velomobiles are actually used?

@hembrow These are cool! In one city near me, there are miles and miles of cart paths. This set up would be perfect for them.
