Some of the FDM 3D printed miniature that I printed a couple of years ago are becoming brittle and breaking. The thin parts are having it the worst. All printed in PLA.

Is this a common problem or was it a bad batch of PLA?

How are your 3D prints holding up over time?

@loji AFAIK the material does become brittle over time. Friend has a printer he occasionally uses and has commented about old filament being stiff and hard to work with.
@tiikerikani Old filament definitely becomes unusable after a while. I guess minis are the same as well.
@loji J'ai signalé il y a quelques temps ici que mes impressions d'il y a 8 ou 9 ans en PLA de chez DailyFil partaient en miette. https://mastodon.social/@Picaboubx/115214482299806736

@loji its PLA. This is normal and expected, as most PLA prints are typically thrown in thr trash after a few weeks (sadly). UV light speeds this process up by a lot.

If you want to print things that last, print with ASA, PETG or some other durable material. PCTG (yes, with a C) has been my fav recently.

@VikThePunk I wish I knew this before I made an effort to paint them nicely...

I guess I'll treat them more disposably from now on.

@loji I recommend you just change the material you print in. PCTG can be printed on any machine from the past 5 years with 0 issues. Hell, past 10 years if you dont mind measing with the print configuration for a bit.
