Hello fediverse! I've been wanting to get out of fuckbook and all for a while, but wasn't vibing with bluesky format... Then I found this amazing space!
I haven't dragged my IRL friends in yet, but I'm excited to connect with new people here too!
I'll start off with a little about myself. I'm Tara (she/her).
I'm from Seattle but living in Athens, Greece for many years now. I spend a lot of time in the #communitypermaculturegarden we started here in a little corner of a park that had basically been a dumpster for years. Our "crew" is called Green Rainbow and we love to create together. We're family, friends and community members that come together to make, dream, connect and learn in a truly accepting space.
Making music (singing, writing, ukulele, bass) makes me happy. So does my dog.
I believe humanity can and must do better, beginning with ourselves. It's not enough to solve the worlds problems, but it's something. And something is so much more than nothing. And many little somethings can make something big happen.
It's Sunday morning, my partner just woke up and we're enjoying coffee and a lazy morning before heading to the garden for our weekly "work party" 🥳 so I'll continue this later...
Have a beautiful day!
If you're still here, I'd love to connect and find interesting people to follow! Especially talking about
#solarpunk #permaculture #communityresilience #communitygarden #climateaction #socialjustice #LGBTQ+ #inclusivecommunity fighting the system, and such...
Picture of my dog because he's adorable 🥰
@TaraBGlobal welcome Tara, have a great day!

@TaraBGlobal good morning & welcome to the fediverse 🥳.

Im also intersted in solarpunk, and your green rainbow crew sounds amazing.

Looking forward to connect with you here.

@philipp thank you! 😁 And ya, our crew is great... From all over the world, teenagers to folks in their 50's, mostly queer, and we have a ton of fun, create and learn together, and try to do a little something positive for our planet and community. I read a few of your posts, I think you'd fit in great with us 😎 (ps- I loved "The Dispossessed"!)

@TaraBGlobal that sounds amazing 😊.

Did not finish the Dispossed yet, thanks for the reminder.

@TaraBGlobal Welcome here! You're hitting my nerve with your topics. Moved to the country side a few years ago, trying to live my best solarpunk permaculture self-sufficient life. Trying to become the local witch. Hope you like it here and bring all your friends. There can't be enough gardeners in the fediverse!
@levampyre nice to meet you! Do you have friends and/or (a) partner(s) living with you or nearby? I couldn't imagine doing that alone! Even as a small group it seems difficult, one major factor here in Greece is the transportation to Athens is slow and expensive. I'm scheming about starting a solidarity and social network here in Greece to make rural living easier by addressing social isolation and practical things like ride and skill sharing, sharing our excess, teaching each other, helping hands to get larger projects done quickly, being able to ask for support without judgement, etc.
@TaraBGlobal I moved with my wife, another partner person and our two daughters. Last year a young collective of around 10 ppl moved to our village, too. We connect well with them. We're also part of the villages community now, but that's complicated, as we are the only openly queer family in an area with wide support for the right wing party. But we're trying. I'm very glad that I am not alone and I would not suggest to pull this off alone. We're social beings. We need community to survive.
@levampyre that's awesome! Village life and mentality I think is the number one concern for a LOT of people... I haven't experienced this yet, but I'm imagining patience and kindness aregoing to be key in building bridges in villages. Although I kind of imagine always being an outsider... I'm curious how (and how much) you integrated into the local community?
@TaraBGlobal We are integrating some with other parents and in kid's school contexts. Also my wife became a member of the local hunting association, as she is a hunter. But for me as an autistic person connecting with other people is generally a challenge. But we've started to do some political networking with likeminded individuals in the area. So it takes some time and effort. But we're making progress.
@TaraBGlobal Welcome. There's no going back! This is such a wonderful experience after Fuckbook
@TaraBGlobal
Hello Tara and welcome 😊
Look forward to hearing more about your community garden, and definitely more photos of a very contented dog.
Your garden has so many trees, what a lovely site😊

@TaraBGlobal

Of course, dogs (and cats and penguins) always work to get attention. Welcome to the fediverse! :-) 🐧

@TaraBGlobal

Welcome to the fediverse 😁 I spend some of the best years of my life in Greece, but I'm currently writing from the midwest of the US. Looking forward to seeing your gardening posts, and your pup is adorable!

@deirdrebeth thanks! And Europe to the Midwest is a huge change! I can't imagine going back to the states after living here...

@TaraBGlobal

I am a Foreign Service Brat, moving large distances frequently has been trained into me since I was only a few months old 😝

@TaraBGlobal Welcome to the good place!

Nice to 'meet' you. 🙂

@paulk thanks! It's been a very warm welcome! Glad to 'meet' you too!

@TaraBGlobal This is a good place, for real. And it got better with you here (I read your bio).

Welcome again. Fun fact: most of my colleagues are in Athens!

Happy new year and have a great day.

@paulk awh, thanks! 💚 If any of your Athens colleagues are interested in community gardening with an awesome, diverse, and inclusive crowd, we'd love to meet them at our garden 😁

Welcome, @TaraBGlobal ! There's a lot of good folks here that are into #SolarPunk!

Tagging your post for #SolarPunkSunday, and adding you to my list!

@DoomsdaysCW thanks! 😁 I'll make sure to follow #SolarPunkSunday for sure! We also happen to have our garden work-parties on Sundays, so I'll share some of what we're doing 💚
@TaraBGlobal Welcome to the fediverse from southern Minnesota. Hashtags will help you locate your people. The follow and unfollow tools work great. Helpful hashtags abound such as, #composting, #visiblemending, #growyourown, #fermentation, #allotments, #Mosstodon, #FungiFriday, #Bloomscrolling, #LichenSubscribe
@Pollinators thanks for the welcome and the advice! I haven't explored much yet, but I'm definitely loving the vibes!
@TaraBGlobal Exploring is easy and fun. It’s up to your enthusiasms. New posts come in from around the world as you follow scores of hashtags and scores of people. A reminder to unfollow anyone with a flourish if they give you crap. More climate hashtags are, #ClimateJustice, #ClimateDiary, #climatecrisis.

@TaraBGlobal

Glad you’re here.

A short thread of some fun bits you might enjoy ;-)

Gardening and what I sometimes call domestic magic.

Attached: 1 image @[email protected] Here’s a true story in the class of things I sometimes call “domestic magic”. It will be slow to write because there will be words and images — and it will take work to get even close to your ability to write alt-text for images. Two years ago my daughter Rebecca was given 150 Saffron corms, extra from an order of 2000 a friend of hers in Vermont planted. Growing a small bed of Saffron is absurdly impractical, beautiful, tasty and lovely! #Saffron #DomesticMagic #florespondence

I created an account on the @[email protected] peertube instance and the first upload is me playing my Dinalin, a hybrid guitar-dulcimer-mandolin I created. Audio: Am playing on an island in the middle of the Saint Lawrence river near upstate New York sitting on a deck in the morning sun hanging out with friends. The song is just something I made up. video: a number of still pictures of the Dinalin in various places and other beautiful pictures I took. #music https://makertube.net/w/4cbVqS3B7iEheiv4ceS5h7

Attached: 1 image Played music last night with friends, one song that seemed very topical, Life During Wartime, Talking Heads: … The sound of gunfire off in the distance I'm getting used to it now Lived in a brownstone, lived in a ghetto I've lived all over this town This ain't no party, this ain't no disco This ain't no fooling around No time for dancing, or lovey dovey I ain't got time for that now … Lyrics: https://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Talking-Heads/Life-During-Wartime Played sweet and lovely songs too. #MusicWithFriends
