Unless was my lofi game this year--something I could kinda passively put on while listening to a podcast and just relax. It’s #SpeedRunning game where a lot of your gains will come from subtle optimizations in how you move.

Running is slightly faster than jumping, and there are three jump heights that you execute by holding down the jump button for slightly different fractions of a second. But also, a clean jump on a platform is much faster than clipping a corner, so watch that. And sometimes it might be best to walk off a platform and immediately air control back to the ledge so you can get a near instant wall jump.

It’s hardcore, but I also find it very soothing. The levels are around 10-seconds long, so you never lose much progress when you make a mistake. And resets are seamless, so I fall into a grove where I slowly tighten my execution for 45 minutes until…
“Wow, that was fast…”
I even chalked up a few top 3 finishes, which, even if there’s only ~300 people on the leaderboard, is a completely novel gaming achievement for me, and I’m proud of it.

PS: I didn't capture it on video, but I did eventually close the 1/20th of a second gap that I was behind(in the video above) and claimed 3rd place as my own!
