There's a USian idiom: “a slow boat to China”

It gets used in a variety of ways but mostly to indicate something taking an annoyingly long time to arrive / travel.

This box arrived yesterday. It traveled by way of a literally slow boat [from] China.

It took 10 weeks (to the day) from the day it left the warehouse to the day it arrived at my door. About 2 weeks of that was just sitting in customs though.

So, that fancy dust collector we paid $$$ for because it was compact and extra quiet? The one that took 10 weeks to ship here on a slow boat from China?

Yeah. It doesn't work. We got a bad unit.

So now I'm #3DPrinting an adapter for a Home Despot Bucket Head vacuum which is _so loud_ to use while I attempt to finish _part_ of ONE of wifey's xmas presents before Xmas. 🤦‍♀️😭

I had to manually vacuum during the 1st milling operation, which sucked & wasn't the safest choice.

My brain is melting at this point so it is unsurprising that my dyscalculia has kicked in and caused me to mess up something in calculating the outer diameter on both ends. Fortunately, I could just wrap it with a little duct tape for an impromptu gasket. This has a pretty tight fit at both ends now.

Depending on how long it takes to get a replacement for the good dust collector, I may not bother re-printing this.

Update: #Makera support got back to me within 3 hours tonight.

They said all the units had passed QC but that maybe something had come loose during shipping. They provided simple instructions and they were right. A wiring harness had come loose.

OMG this thing is amazing. It is SOOOOO quiet.

Squeeeee!

In other #CNC news

Some parts were hurt during this test.

The clamp on the right has a cut through it that the one on the left does not.

The bit also decided to ram itself into a flat metal l-bracket. Somehow, I still haven't broken a bit.

The ultra-short takeaway is that #Makera 's CAM software is - IMNSHO - 💩 and not ready for production.

In addition to crashing A LOT it made some really stupid tool paths that _looked_ fine, but definitely were not.
