Along with #duvetknowitschrismas, time for a new yearly tradition:

#ITschristmas, where we share IT support horror stories from helping family over Christmas.

Here's mine to start:

I'll be reposting the best ones throughout the evening. Tell me your nightmares.

From someone who is no longer on social media:

"I'd supplied several months of phone support for a windows PC someone had thoughtlessly given my MiL. One sticking point was that she'd been unable to use the CD-ROM drive successfully. On visiting I retrieved about 10 discs that had been carefully pushed between two plastic blanking plates on the front of the case" #ITschristmas

From @ModernDayNTK on bsky:

"Parents' Macbook had fallen behind on major OSX updates, with the result that many (/all?) Firefox pages looked like this" #ITschristmas

@ModernDayNTK Another one from me:

Sorting out a Brazil-esque cable nightmare behind the family TV I was baffled by three HDMI connections plugged in, given they only have one device.

Yes, a HDMI cable had both ends plugged into the TV. The TV input switcher was *very* angry about this. #ITschristmas

@jonty really we need to construct a cable to connect all three inputs together

@jonty poor old TV...

"Why is it so echoey in here!
Echoey in here!
echoey in here...
echoey in here..."
