"They can be easily duplicated, shared, and made into mixtapes using equipment you find in a junk shop." - this is hugely illegal, and robs artists of even the tiny amounts they get from streaming platforms. you're a pirate, plain and simple.
"What if there’s no ethical way..." what makes you the arbiter of that question? you just admitted to being a pirate. please don't try to lecture streamers.
"Or you might discover something that changes you forever" - this happens all the time on Spotify. if you think this is a function of the media, and not the music, you're sadly deluded. i'm here for the art. the media and delivery aren't consequential.
otherwise watching a live performance is as worthless as you claim streaming is.
John Rohde Jensen@404mediaco I've finally figured out why people love Vinyl. The whole production and playback process creates a lot of 'Second Order Distortion' and humans ears just love that kind of distortion. CD's and streaming just don't scratch that HiFi itch.

Bleep@404mediaco good article. freaks like me have music on loads of formats - including tape but i’d never play them. I’ve digitised them that’s why. I also have Apple icloud library so i have access to all my ripped cd’s and soulseek mp3s and bandcamp purchases on every device i’m logged in to. it’s possible to have paid your dues, to keep paying them and to enjoy streaming if you were born before a certain date. I did fire up my 1Gb sony mp3 player recently for listening in town. I liked it.
