So this puts my university's claim that MS Office365 is our only GDPR-compliant cloud platform in an interesting light. No US-owned holder of data can be GDPR compliant thanks to the US CLOUD Act 🫠 https://www.theregister.com/2025/12/22/europe_gets_serious_about_cutting/
@agbuckley This is a thing that I've pointed out before in security discussions... mostly to a very sad silent agreement.
@agbuckley
Has anyone ever enacted Art5(2) of GDPR?
As in: done the prescribed, real, dependable technical & organisational audit upon the cloud systems in questions, instead of just rubber-stamping some papers?
@agbuckley
Seriously frightening that we are SO dependent on a country that is basically a Banana Republic in 2025!! Run by self aggrandising thugs and an orange nutjob.

@agbuckley

We have LONG worried more about saving a penny than being independent...

It's not just in tech and computing we buy defence missiles and planes from US - long ago the joke was we brought Polaris and then Trident but were we allowed to launch "OUR deterrent" without US permission recently Trump talked about turning off parts of the Planes they sold folk if they wanted to...

It's not just China spying on us through, and controlling, the tech they sell us. It's very mush the yanks!

@agbuckley Is your university lying?
@clock I think they believed what they were told about our MS contact keeping data in Europe and that that was sufficient
@agbuckley So were they lying or not?
@clock Never ascribe to conspiracy what can be explained by incompetence, etc etc. 😄
Schrems II a summary - all you need to know

The Schrems II judgement has made it more complicated to share data between the EU and the US. This article explains the impact on business.

GDPR Summary
@dynom It was news to me! 🤷‍♂️ Not a bad thing to repeat
