The legislative package included a bill, introduced by Rep #MarjorieTaylorGreen (R-GA) that makes it a #crime to provide #GenderAffirmingCare to #transgender minors, punishable by a fine or #prison time of up to 10 years. It passed on Wednesday.

Another bill, introduced by Rep #DanCrenshaw (R-TX) would prohibit #Medicaid reimbursement for gender-affirming care for youth. It is scheduled for a vote Thursday. Both bills would also have to pass the #Senate to become #law.

Supporters & opponents of #transgender rights agree that, taken together, the forthcoming #hospital rules will make access to pediatric #GenderAffirmingCare across the country extremely difficult, if not impossible. The care is already banned in 27 #states. The proposed rules will start a comment period after they are entered into the Federal Register; they will not take effect immediately.

A coalition of 19 #states Tues sued to block the #Trump admin’s plan to strip #federal #funding from #hospitals providing gender-related care for minors, a policy that would effectively shut down any #health care providers that failed to comply.

That plan, announced Thurs by “Health” Secy #RFKJr, would cut off all #Medicaid & #Medicare payments — which make up a major share of #hospital revenue — to any facility that provides minors with gender-related treatments in the country.

1) There aren't many of us, so we're not an effective political bloc and people are less likely to know us personally.
2) We show that long-standing assumptions about sex and gender aren't true, and people are instinctively defensive when their assumptions are challenged.
3) Changing people's minds requires more than just an infodump, which is time consuming.
4) It's easer to make up lies than it is to correct them.
5) Anything relating to sex and gender makes quite a lot of people feel slightly uncomfortable to begin with.

Probably other reasons too, but those are the ones that spring to mind.
