2026 Plus Minus Next - Weekly Reviews

These templates makes it easy to record a year’s worth of Plus Minus Next weekly reviews in a plain text app like Obsidian or iA Writer.Changes in this version: I've added a minimalist version without wiki links or emojis, perfect for any text editor.If you find an error, please make sure you're looking at the most recent version, then email me or comment on this page to let me know.The download consists of a series of Markdown files in a folder that can be used in any text editor.You'll see that the weekly review page is essentially a simple list, as my approach is to stay away from app-specific plugins and features when a simple, more universal solution will do.There’s a different icon next to each month, chosen to reflect the seasons of the Northern / Southern hemispheres.Screenshot of Plus Minus Next page, showing Outline pane on the rightThe advantage of the emojis goes beyond looking pretty: in the outline pane it’s easy to see which week numbers belong to which month, and which weeks cross from one month to another.If you’re new to Obsidian and would like to learn how to set up your notes from scratch, check out Nicole van der Hoeven’s getting started video.

@ellane have you seen anyone published those monthly calendars like you found last year?
@astrophoenix Which calendar was that? Not sure which one you mean. Was it the big wall poster?
@ellane I forgot you created those, I was thinking you had posted about it and someone else had made them. are you going to make a 2026 edition?
@astrophoenix Ah! Now I remember. Stay tuned, I have that one on my list.

Here is the 2026 edition of my Markdown calendars, especially for people who love to simplify their lives in industrially beautiful, completely unnecessary ways!

I've added an interactive version. (Find and replace if needed to make it conform to your preferred format)

@ellane @astrophoenix @jorgesanz Hello Ellane, I hope your start of the year has been very blessed!

Today I came to check better and more closely these calendars in markdown and I realized that the date of April 1st (Traditional Calendar (sun)) starts exactly on the same day that ends the month of March, making the other days from that point on one day behind in the weeks.

In short: March 31st and April 1st are both on Tuesday, and April 1st should be on Wednesday.

Thanks for sharing! 😉

@samej Thank you for picking that up!! I will make the corrections soon. @astrophoenix @jorgesanz

@samej Okay, the traditional Markdown calendar, Sunday start, has been corrected. Any more errors found, please let me know! @astrophoenix @jorgesanz

@ellane
2026 Interactive calendar is amazing, but the closing "|" characters are missing:
... | S
... | ----:

instead of

... | S |
... | ----: |

@ellane
How cool would it be if Obsidian showed dead links dimmed thus we could immediately see if a note exists behind the link. An idea for a plugin maybe? :D
@SanskritFritz Obsidian does just that for me, no plugin needed.

@SanskritFritz Here's how dead links look for me in the Minimal theme (Inbox.pdf).

Another thing you can do to see if a link is live in Obsidian is to press ctrl / command when hovering over the link. If it's live, a preview will appear.

@ellane
I'll check out the Minimal then!
@SanskritFritz Also check out Style Settings plugin where you can fine tune how links appear.
@ellane
Oh God, I never used that one too
@ellane
lots to learn :D

@ellane

I checked out some themes and fell in love with the Ink theme.

@SanskritFritz It's a lovely looking theme, but… no dark mode, sadly.
@ellane
It wouldn't be an ink theme then 😉
@SanskritFritz Yes, as was written on the tin. But (*shudders*) no dark mode theme is a dealbreaker for these old eyes.
@ellane
I'm old too, but my eyes are dazzled at dark themes. Interesting.
@SanskritFritz Just at night! Light themes during the day.

@SanskritFritz @ellane

That's the way obsidian does it. Most likely your theme is to blame here.

@SaltyMonk @ellane
Whoa, I checked it, and on the mobile version I can see it, but not on the desktop. I don't use any theme. I'll see about that, maybe check out some themes 🤔
Thanks for the heads-up!
@SaltyMonk @ellane
Now I took a closer look, and indeed the link colors are different, but not different enough for my old eyes, and certainly not different enough in the calendar, where the links are just one number. Oh well.
@SaltyMonk @ellane
But, I just inspected it, and of course the css classes are different ("internal-link" and "internal-link is-unresolved") so a css snippet I'll write will help me for sure.

@SaltyMonk @ellane
Here we go 😎

.internal-link.is-unresolved {
color: grey !important;
}

@SaltyMonk @ellane
Oh and just realized, this only works with [[Obsidian links]], and not with [standard](links). The latter has the same class in both cases. I use standard links throughout my notes, and that is why there was no difference between resolved and unresolved links.

@SanskritFritz @ellane

Ah, das erklärt es. Ich benutze in der Tat vorrangig Obsidianlinks.

@SaltyMonk @ellane
Naja, ich bevorzüge dass meine noten auch in anderen markdown editoren korrekt gezeigt werden können, deshalb [diese](links) hier.
@SanskritFritz Thank you so much, I’ll put it on the list to fix!
@SanskritFritz Okay, I have added the ending vertical pipes. Thank you again for the error feedback, very much appreciated.
@ellane thank you for the calendar got it posted on my wall at work!
@matcha06 Really??! I'd love to see a (personal info redacted) photo of that!
@ellane nothing really fancy but I check off the dates as I go through the year. Super helpful for quick glancing.
@matcha06 That looks great! What is the scale?
@ellane its about 43 cm tall
@matcha06 One of the nicest things about seeing the calendar printed out is the infamous "Untitled" at the top. My brain finds it amusing to see that in the physical world!
@ellane gonna be honest i didnt even see the Untitled until you pointed it out! I focus on the dates. :) Thank you again for making it!
