Today we baked 194 cookies to deliver tomorrow, made bows and tiny notecards, listened to Nat King Cole and played with my cat and our cousins doggo. Texted with family and friends. Ran into Santa while buying kitty litter, pic is on the timeline. Looked forward all day to #christmaswatchparty

@tris some people experience discomfort around food, seeing food. Sometimes people are vegetarian and don't want to see dead animals on a plate. I see cw's as a wrapper, an option to click in, consensually choosing to see something. Eye contact can be the same way. But really, cw are great for telling jokes or just giving a heads up about a sensitive topic

@MamaLake I just wanted to say a Merry Christmas, everyone. I'm watching this tonight as I work Christmas Day. I'm watching it with some spiked eggnog, and the movie is so lovely. It's timely, too. I love Dickens, but until recently such a tale has felt like it was meant for a former time. In the US, this hits so close to home. I'm truly moved. Love to all. 🎄

@MamaLake That's what I was thinking too! Perhaps money was the only way he could channel his energy.... It would be quiet a thing to re-tell this story with this perspective, and instead of Scrooge becoming 'normal' and joining everyone in celebration, the town learns to live with his kind in their midst (without the obsession with money!)

@dilmandila I like to think that scrooge's arc last more than one day, but he gains perspective that shifts his Why. He will probably still be prone to being alone, finding joy and comfort in his solitude. But maybe he buys more than a goods for the cratchetts, maybe he also helps his employees have Healthcare. And maybe it's not about forced celebration and more about appreciating the people close to us, their patience for our failings and such. What do you think?

@MamaLake Yeah! I got a sense that the film, like most Hollywood films, was saying, 'you should be good only on Christmas' or sentiments to that effect. I think it aligns with how capitalists behave, once they give a few pennies to charity they imagine that makes up for the rest of their greed.
