#Loops #AccountSuggestions #SmartDiscovery

@loops Can i block this "service" at all?

The #Fediverse is the #service without any #algorithms you have to struggle with!

You can block Loops domains yes, but remember the fediverse is powered by algorithms, you are using one right now on Mastodon, a reverse chronological feed. That is an algorithm!

@loops

First: timestamps and sorting messages by timestamps is no algorithm – it is sorting. (But i accept to see sorting as an algorithm.)

I don't understand how i can block loops domain if i'm a user of loops? As a user of loops i just want to see things on loops in reverse timestamp order – nothing more, nothing less.

@dnkrupinski @loops
I think having that choice would be important to me too. I'm waiting to see

@dnkrupinski @loops You can just scroll through the 'Following' and 'Local' timeline if you are not interested in seeing videos powered by an algorithm.
For others, like me, who would like to see more videos pertaining to our own interests - but not on platforms owned by big corporates, the loops algorithm does a great job.

Also, looking forward to the account suggestions feature.

@loops @dnkrupinski
Algorithms are not evil, the problem is the lack of control over it and the lack of transparency on other platforms.
If it is optional and helps you based on your peferences that you can change and know how it works, I don't see any problem.

@taketwo @loops

I agree. But non of this is true for loops at the moment.

There are a lot of peferences in loops which are not changeable and Dan is adding more features without the possibility to opt-out the old preferences.

So i think, this is no good path.

@dnkrupinski @loops discovery is broken because of black box algorithms and you assume this is the same thing?
@jenzi @loops It is something which will "envolve" over the time. I like evolution but in the meaning of „Is it neccessary to survive?“
@dnkrupinski @loops okay if you add your own angle you can hate anything based on unrelated experiences, I love your black and white thinking and apparent fears.
@jenzi @loops Thanks for your comment. Have a nice life!
@dnkrupinski
Why would you? If you don’t use Loops you are not using its algorithms.
@loops

@juergen @loops

I thought we were trying to establish services in the Fediverse that focus on people and not algorithms? If I want algorithms, advertising, and all the other bad stuff, then I'll stick with the TechBros from the US!

@dnkrupinski
Just saying if you don’t like it, don’t use it.
There is no definition in the Activity Pub specifications that forbid algorithms.
Just a neutral pov.

@loops

@dnkrupinski
Btw. you already using a Fediverse SW using algorithms similar to what @dansup wants to achieve:

Goto Trending->Profiles on your Mastodon Instance and you see profiles suggested to you. This is an algorithm.

@loops

@juergen @dansup @loops

I **have to** go there to get … – I do not.

Just implement things without the need to opt-out just with the need to opt-in.

@dnkrupinski
Then read first what is proposed for loops it is exactly the same. Have you had the same complaints mentioned to the Mastodon team?
@juergen Do i have to do this? Have a nice day, stay healthy!
@dnkrupinski no you don’t have to. But sometimes it is just fair to be fair.
@dnkrupinski @juergen @dansup @loops The "For You feed"(algorithm) is opt-in on loops, because by default you are shown the "Local" timeline(at least on the web), so if you don't want algorithm, don't opt-in to the "For You" timeline.

@juergen @loops

I didn't claim that there were any prohibitions on algorithms in ActivityPub. I thought we had a consensus that services in the Fediverse are not algorithm-driven because these services are made for people and not for anything else... by everyone who uses ActivityPub.
We don't need a new/another TikTok, we don't need a new/another Instagram, and we don't need another/new Threads. What we need are real services by people for people without algorithms, without SEO, without advertising, etc.

@loops Looking forward to it.

Also, looking forward to another feature- push notifications on the web, not just on mobile. Please implement this feature.

@loops can i follow a loops account from mastodon?
