@gleick I wonder which town this is. In my home town #Hanover the Bahnhofstraße was renamed Adolf-Hitler-Straße in 1933, but Hanover was in the British sector after the war and that clearly is a US soldier.

And only got renamed after Hitler lost in 1945
Were they worried about offending a nazi dictator or something?
