Looking for #linuxaudio users with an #nvidia graphics card to see if the #Bitwig Connect control panel app works for you. You don't need to have the Connect hardware, just install

https://www.bitwig.com/get-connected/

and let me know if the app starts or crashes. You can boot it from the command line for more verbose output:

$ bitwig-control-panel

This version used to work in Ubuntu 25.04 but... (background follows)

Get Connected | Bitwig

Control Panel, drivers, and other resources for Bitwig Connect.

www.bitwig.com

This app used to work in Ubuntu 25.04 but now in 25.10 it crashes, and the logs complain about the nvidia drivers.

It is strange because Bitwig itself works for me with the same nvidia drivers and hardware acceleration.

I contacted Bitwig support and they say they haven't heard about this issue. This is why I'm looking for at least a couple more linux+nvidia testers, to see if we can confirm the bug or if there is something particular to my system.

@icaria36 the app isn't starting here, but I'm on CachyOS (Arch) and it was only downloadable as a .deb. And therefore not the best fit to install on an Arch system.

@mosgaard Thank you very much for testing! Can you check if in your home folder there is a new hidden directory ".BitwigConnectControlPanel" and if it has a "bitwig-connect-control-panel-jvm-crash.log" file inside? If you open that log, do you see in the first lines something about nvidia drivers, like i.e.

# Problematic frame:
# C [libnvidia-glcore.so.580.95.05+0xd6c213]

?

That's all, I won't ask more. ๐Ÿ˜…

@icaria36 I have:

# Problematic frame:
# C [libvulkan_intel.so+0x3c2c81]

@icaria36 perhaps I should mention I'm on a Lenovo, that has a combined GPU. So there is either the internal or there is NVIDIA.
@mosgaard Ah, but this is very good. You got the same type of error on a different card. Thank you very much!
@mosgaard @icaria36 There's a version of it in AUR - so I can install it on Arch Linux. I'm getting this error with an nvidia card.

@dr_laemmerbein @mosgaard Oooo, thank you so much! This is very useful as well.

At the very least it's clear that this is not one of those "something is broken in my system". Still to be seen how much of this problem is in the app or upstream in the drivers.

@icaria36 It runs on my Linux Mint 22.2 w/Nvidia display. I have intentionally set my Bitwig graphics to OpenGL instead of Vulkan (not sure if it is reading the state of my graphics driver from Bitwig preferences).
@ambientspace Wow, thank you! How do set Bitwig graphics to OpenGL instead of Vulkan? This is new to me, and I see Vulkan mentioned in the error logs.

@icaria36 it's not easily found, but try these steps. Once set, it should work for 5.3.13 and later installations.
1. CTL-Enter to open the Commander in Bitwig (v5.3.13 in my case).
2. Search for "Advanced" and you should see one entry "Show Advanced Settings". Click this.
3. This should open your Settings panel to the *hidden* Advanced Settings where you can choose between Vulkan or OpenGL. A restart of Bitwig is needed if you make changes.

Good luck!

@ambientspace Oh my, I'll try. I had no idea.
@icaria36 I was getting poor UI response in Bitwig (laggy, stutters) and this was *after* going through all the steps to get RT Kernel, processor and power management setting adjusted. Now it is smooth and lovely to interact with.

@ambientspace Changing Bitwig to OpenGL changes nothing in the control panel app, which, ok, makes sense because they are different apps.

I wonder whether the control panel app works for you because you have older nvidia drivers (it used to work for me just a few months ago). Anyway, interesting.

@icaria36 I'm using the NVidia driver version 580.95.05

Have you tried unplugging the BW Connect device to see if the app will open with nothing connected?

@animatek Thank you for testing! Which version of nvidia driver are you using?

@icaria36 got it running with an additional lib. Hardware test following.
