I love this idea of expanding the idea of a geological "rock garden" into more of an outdoor lab that builds in processes and structure/spatial distribution, as well as lithology and geological time.
When I taught structural geology during COVID I did an exercise where I sent the students around campus to find surfaces to do structural measurements on - a space set up for meaningful data collection would have made this so much better.
