I definitely wasn't expecting to make an update to this more than two years after the fact, but I have a mind-blowing update: I have been contacted by an IRL friend of Jim Theis'! He was the editor of GRAFAN in the early 1970s, and... he has the rumored sequel to The #EyeOfArgon!

And he super kindly mailed a copy of it to my PO Box, along with this wonderful note!

I have enjoyed speaking to him over the past couple days. He has a lot of insight on this important part of fandom history.

He has a lot of info about Jim, the story, and GRAFAN on his Substack:

He has also donated his collection of zines to the State Historical Society of Missouri! https://collections.shsmo.org/manuscripts/saint-louis/s0371

After so much speculation, I am really happy to see someone who actually knew Jim is out there willing to set the record straight. And I can't believe the sequel to "Eye of Argon" is finally out there in the world! It is nice to see the real Jim Theis get recognition after being lost to the urban legend for so long. As I thought, it sounds like he was a nice, ordinary, and well-liked guy, and he deserves to be remembered for who he was. Thank you again to Walt for reaching out!
