Icanbob@hoon I’ve had limited success in my personal campaign. Especially with my friends on Instagram and Facebook. They like their communities and it is too much effort to port those to a new platform. Cory Doctorow has it right, what we need are porting tools that are currently illegal to build.

It took me about 10 years until all my friends joined Signal. I was pressured to switch back to the surveillance platforms, but I stayed strong. The same thing is happening now with the Fediverse. Recently, the first friends have started appearing. Patience and persistence are key 😉

@hoon The network effect is a huge impediment to people switching apps such as Instagram to PixelFed. What is required IMO, is an app that would allow Instagram posters to simultaneously post to both Instagram and PixelFed. That way followers could choose and there would be no violation of Meta’s rules.
