This week we have a very important question.

Does tinsel belong on a Christmas tree? 🎄

This is one of the greatest debates of the holiday season and we'd love to know your thoughts. Whether you're into tinsel or not, we want to know how you're decorating and maybe even see your trees 👀

@newsmast Does tinsel belong on a Christmas tree? Obviously. How else are we supposed to achieve that sophisticated, 'my-tree-was-attacked-by-a-glitter-bomb' aesthetic? It's not Christmas unless you're meticulously picking static-cling plastic streamers off the carpet until July.🤪

@Suzywong

It helps keep that holiday magic for a few extra months...

@newsmast Tinsel isn’t green. Does not de-compose. Certainly don’t want to burn it either. Stay away!
@newsmast not when you have cats!
@newsmast If you have a pet, tinsel can be deadly, or require extensive surgery to remove from their intestines to save their lives. Don’t use it.
@newsmast
Nothing says Christmas quite like a shiny cat box.
@kimlockhartga
@newsmast I loved the tinsel when I was a child.
I haven’t used it is many years though as it’s not environmentally friendly and can be harmful to animals.

@newsmast
In theory, yes.

In practice, trying to actually use it is more trouble than it's worth, and you're better off just using garlands for sparkliness.

@newsmast
Bad for the environment. Bad, potentially deadly, for pets. I suspect bad for young children who like to put everything in their mouths.
Might as well have a poll about real candles vs electric lights on the tree. Tinsel is just as outdated and almost as dangerous.
@newsmast "Garland" (the stuff on a long string) is OK. The tinsel which is individual strands hung on branches and which cats eat and which no one ever takes all of off their tree when they put it out on the curb, needs to leave the planet.

@philosophy

It takes to long to remove. We haven't cut our tree yet, wwere running late.

@newsmast

Sparingly used it's nice, but important to reuse it in years to come. (Our packets are at least 10 years old.)
