I wasn't even trying to go planespotting at the moment. But a look out the window caught a Cathay Pacific 747-8F freighter going by on final approach to PDX. These come in 2-3 times per week, all from LAX. I noticed they file 3 flight plans every time with different flight numbers, but only fly one of them. I'm guessing they use one that best fits the time it took to load the plane. Kinda weird. But Portland has a reputation for weird too. #aviation #avgeek #KPDX #PNW
I got some hasty pictures of the same Cathay Pacific 747-8F that I saw earlier, when it was departing Portland #KPDX for Anchorage #PANC. I was bicycling to PDX for pictures of the 787-9 incoming to the Boeing paint hangar. #aviation #avgeek
Short video clip showing the bike path into PDX Airport. On the left a TriMet Red Line light rail begins its run to downtown Portland from the airport station, with planes parked beyond the fence. On the right, traffic is on Airport Way leaving the terminal and the parking garage where I got pictures and video today is behind it. #aviation #travel #cycling #avgeek #KPDX

I see people are still liking this planespotting thread 2 weeks later. I'll add a link to the main event from that afternoon's bike ride to the airport which was posted in another thread: a 787-9 arriving in Norwegian livery (an order which was cancelled because the carrier went under) which will be repainted for Lufthansa (who has bought up all the old Norwegian 787s). https://avgeek.social/@ikluft/115703919915646796

Attached: 2 images Another red-nosed ex-Norwegian (cancelled order) 787-9 Dreamliner was ferried from Everett #KPAE to Portland #KPDX to be repainted for new customer Lufthansa. Online sleuths have identified this one as line number 983 which will be registered D-ABQC. If it already had its interior done in Everett, then Boeing may have time to finish this one in time to count its delivery this calendar quarter. Maybe. #aviation #business #avgeek #travel #PNW

@ikluft Wow, actual dedicated bike path into an airport?!?! We can't even get transit service into LAX. (well... finally... but Uber/Lyft had to break the political stranglehold the limo services had on the airport).
@ai6yr Yeah, the bike path was built with a double-tracking expansion for the Red Line light rail that was finished last year. it definitely helps with access any time I want to do planespotting from the top of the garages facing either runway. Jonathan Maus of BikePortland wrote up an intro when the new south-side path opened last year. The north side already had a bike lane entrance. But this is now the preferred route. https://bikeportland.org/2024/06/11/first-look-new-bike-path-to-portland-airport-387331
First Look: New bike path to Portland Airport

A fantastic addition, but a seamless ride to the airport is still a dream.

@ai6yr LAX will more than catch up when the Automated People Mover to the parking garages, rental car center and LAX Transit Center opens next year. Then again, LAX is preparing to host the Olympics. Portland just likes transit and bikes.
