This will make the end of participation in person for U.S. hacking conventions for many overseas, as only people who support Trump publicly will be allowed into the country.

Foreign tourists could be required to disclose 5 years of social media histories under Trump administration plan

The Customs and Border Protection proposal would apply even to countries that don't require visas to enter.

NBC News

Who wants to hand this to Trump?

"In addition to social media histories, Customs and Border Protection would add other new data collection fields, including email addresses and telephone numbers used in the last five years, as well as the addresses and names of family members, the notice reads."

@realhackhistory According to Edward Snowden the US government and it's intelligence agencies already have all that information and more.

In any Western country the entire information space is controlled by America and it's America that owns all that data.

@Rastal I’m not here for privacy nihilism.
@Rastal @realhackhistory people capitulating in advance is always sad to see
@catileptic @realhackhistory Not capitulation. A warning that this is already reality. They've already done this, they already own all your data. The time when people should have been outraged was a very long time before Trump making this announcement, but silence and even Snowden (who risked his life to warn of such things) that all fell on deaf ears after the initial controlled shock subsided. Now people are against it because of Trump, when they should have been against it on principle.
@Rastal @catileptic people were already worried about privacy before Snowden. Throwing tantrums on Mastodon isn’t helping fix anything.

Welcome to the USSR.....

USSR = United States of Soviet Republicans

@maddad don’t post swastikas in response to me please.

@maddad

Yeah, hey, not cool posting stuff illegal in Germany among other places. I mean, yes, they're Nazis, but that's not even the symbol they're using officially...

@realhackhistory

@stonebear2 @realhackhistory

I call it what it is... republicans are nazis and I am not afraid to throw it in their faces.

@realhackhistory I wouldn't want to degrade myself by being 'acceptable' to Trump border guards. I have more dignity.

Dear Fedi folks familiar with the US regulatory structure: Please find the Federal Register comment section for this proposed reg, SHARE THE HELL OUT OF IT, tag me so I can do likewise, and *then* let fly on said comment section with your best legalese G-rated-but-still-vicious interpretation of "f*** you and the Stephen Miller you rode in on".

(No, I can't find it, I'm seeing a lot of MSM coverage of it, but like they could be arsed to link to the actual Federal Register comment section...)
