Scottish #Labour MPs abstain on #EU customs union vote

Just 200 MPs voted out of total 650! #DemocracyNOW

Customs Union Bill, tabled by the LibDems on Tuesday, ended in a surprise tie of 100 votes to 100, giving the deputy speaker Caroline Nokes the casting vote, who told MPs she would back the bill “in order to allow for further debate”

The most #dishonest campaign in modern #British #political history promised that Brexit would save £350 million a week.

Instead:

- #Brexit is now costing this country £250 million every single day
- That is why we have the highest #tax burden in 70 years
- That is why families face sky-high #bills
- That is why we remain trapped in a #CostOfLiving crisis

I remember, before the election, when I asked what Labour would do to make things better, they wouldn't answer.

Oh, Keir's playing a clever game, making sure the Tories don't steal our policies, they told me. Keeping our powder dry, they told me.

Well, now we know. Starmer has no intention of doing anything to make anything better for us.

Everything he does is for the benefit of rich industrialists, or genocidal maniacs.

It's true that brexit was a huge mistake, has made almost all Brits poorer than they would otherwise have been, and is a major reason they are generally poorer than people in neighbouring countries... BUT lets not forget that there is also a general malaise across western economies, caused by the wrong turn into neoliberalism and financialisation of capitalism. The core problems - excessive rent extraction, precaritous employment, environmental degradation, etc - affect countries in the EU as well as out.

@GeofCox Yes, basically a failure of capitalism. Or put another way, capitalism is working as it was intended.
