@SIB I'm thinking about offering a workshop for open source software users and maintainers with a focus on community building and lowering the hurdles for old and new contributors to facilitate collaboration. While research software is often provided as open source, contributions and continued development are often neglected as core pillars of research software success as a result of not thinking about the software's lifecycle when new tools are published.

Would that topic suit this conference?

@fabianegli Great topic! While it’s outside the five core scientific areas, it fits well under the Tutorials & Workshops call. ECCB2026 workshops are interactive and can address methodological or community themes supporting computational biology. A session on sustainable open-source practices and lowering contribution barriers would be very relevant. Just frame it with an interactive format.
We encourage you to submit!
