Not sure if any of the #mobilelinux people have seen it but looks like theres a new mobile linux distro out there with a new custom UI built on QT6 inspired by the blackberry days. It seems like a nice UI design, quickly ran on my PT2. Its immutable and looks like its enabling PREEMPT_RT to reduce latency in the UX. So far it looks like its only been tested on a #OnePlus6 but hopefully theres more and hopefully its shell makes it up to #postmarketos directly

Marathon OS - Gesture-First Mobile Linux

Inspired by what made BB10 legendary. Built for today. A gesture-first mobile OS on Linux with The Hub, Active Frames, and modern UX.

@Luigi311 That website is full of contradictions 🤔 They say it's based on pmOS, but also that libhybris is supported. Then they say "mainline kernel, no blobs" and later reaffirm it also supports libhybris.
On "features now" it lists Waydroid but within parentheses says "coming soon".

I've never heard of this before but I hope they'll stick to making the shell and not also build an OS. Doing both is too much for a small (one person?) team.

@bart Yeah i was confused about the hybris support, i wonder if they didnt realize that pmos has dropped that and is doing mainline only now.

For waydroid it could just simply be that they havent gotten around adding waydroid to the base image and its immutable so people may not be able to add it themselves.

Luckily since its built on top of PMOS i would think the OS side they are dealing with in minimal and its mostly that managing immutability and the kernel.

@Luigi311 I wonder how the immutable part works. At pmOS we're working on immutable ourselves and it's still a bunch of work away and also needs some OS changes itself. Not sure how this project is doing it and if they'll move to our immutable base in the future.

@bart this popped back into my head recently and checked their discord. Looks like @newbyte confirmed that #marathonos is just gonna piggy back off the pmos immutability thats in the works and not make their own.

I also asked about hybris support and the creator mentioned that was in reference to the shell, it runs on hybris devices running other OS like droidian for example.

So it does seem like its mostly a shell and they are using #postmarketos as their base for the OS.
