Just when you thought that buying straight single ingredients was safe...

Organic whipping cream:

Ingredients SHOULD be just one ingredient. Cream, right?

EHHHHH

They all have "gellan gum" now, whatever the fuck that is. (I'll report back on my findings)

If you can, buy local. Your grocery store should carry at least one.

@juliewebgirl they gelatinize the cream to sell you more cheap water!

  • If this was in Germany, sellers would smack each other with costly cease-and-decist letters so hard, the #Food #Fraudsters would beg for Customs to SWAT them and shutdown their operations...

#FoodFraud

@juliewebgirl it's fucking sad this isn't a thing but I guess like with #Scampi and #Döner:

  • "If everyone does it, there's noone innocent to smack the others for it!"

@kkarhan

#Scampi #Döner

Not sure what those are. Scampi as in the big shrimps? Maybe you're referencing the radioactive shrimp?

@juliewebgirl no:

  • Similarly #Döner that is mostly minced meat instead if lamb/mutton/beef slices is not Döner!

Nephrops norvegicus - Wikipedia

@kkarhan @juliewebgirl Though I do not quite understand why turkey or chicken slices aren't legally considered Döner. My local döner shop had to replace the labels on the menu sign with "Drehspieß" a few years ago.
@LunaDragofelis @juliewebgirl yes because it isn't #Döner and some genuine Döner shop may just send them a very costly cease-and-decist if they kept it claiming to be Döner!
@kkarhan @juliewebgirl It should be considered döner though. Or at least be allowed to call itself "Putendöner", with the type of meat being explicit. If a customer then thinks a turkey is a kind of cow or lamb, it honestly shouldn't be considered the sellers fault, just as if a customer thinks a "Veggieburger" contains meat.

@LunaDragofelis @kkarhan

I think it's generally called deli meat here. 🤔 Or pressed meat?

@LunaDragofelis @juliewebgirl yeah, At least be upfront about it.

@juliewebgirl but then again #Germany is where people build #Döner Slice Cutting Robots and call it #DerGerät and #meme that so hard that the manufacturer just rolls with it.

Ok lol I used "shrimp" in a very vague way as I was really asking if it was the seafood or maybe it was a corporation name or a person's name or a scandal.

As far as shrimp, prawns, scampi, lobster, longostino go... I don't see scampi or longostino commonly sold. And shrimp and prawns are differentiated pretty much by size. I don't buy any of them so I'm not up on it...

I haven't trusted shrimp since oh gosh it's been a long time. There was an issue in Indonesia or nearby with an oil tanker spill I think? Same with shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico.

If I'm craving shrimp, I'll wait till shrimp season and I'll drive over to Hood Canal and buy Hood Canal shrimp. *The* best. ..

Oh. Or fly to Hawaii and go to the North Shore and buy garlic shrimp at the food trucks. Lol Yeah that's not gonna happen ever again.

Sorry for tangent 🤪
