Programming is GONE. POOF. Overnight. What non-coding "survival skill" do you have that suddenly makes you the most valuable person in the room? (Project management? Teaching? The ability to fix ANY printer? Stop bad guys taking advantage of elderly?) Tell me your superpower! 👇
@nixCraft I know how to do proper operations :D
@nixCraft I'm very good at doom scrolling 😂
@nixCraft I know many bad jokes.
And I'm not bad at imitating accents.
@nixCraft Grow food. Everyone needs to eat.
@nixCraft Farming, woodworking, metalworking, plumbing, and lots of other thing. Grew up in Ukrainian village during hard times (90s). Live in Ukraine during war. Gotta learn stuff.
@nixCraft
Navigate with a map, a compass, and the stars.
@nixCraft I take parts from broken bikes to repair other broken bikes. More generally, I can repair stuff.
@nixCraft Wood working. Martial arts. Singing. Petting dogs.
@nixCraft I can click TAB like real quick.
@nixCraft playing music. Entertaining people while they consider why everything is now broken. 🤪
@nixCraft I can fix any printing device no matter how big or small it is, and any CD players from the 80/90s... #neiche
@nixCraft Software Development is my 4th career. I can always fall back on previous ones until I find a new one.

While trying to #GetHired for 2+ years, I've learned how to make Neapolitan pizzas along with breads and cookies to save money. I've learned other new recipes for dishes too. I doubt I'd ever work as a chef, but I eat well.

I have a 2yo Yorkie puppy now; in the warm months we walk a lot and I work on his training, so maybe a Pizza Delivery Dog Walker job?

Back in the day between jobs in South of France, I did field support for all the English/German/Swedish ex-pats and French in the region, resolve dial-up/ ISDN/ ADSL issues or fixing Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP (usually lengthy format/re-install process). These days I keep that knowledge of computers secret, else someone asks for help.

I've taught 8-12 yo Judo; mentored juniors in the office; done some amateur Improv comedy. I doubt I'd find work as Improv Judoka Teacher.

I study skills like Rust (maybe Go next, though I play Go better). I keep my mind busy by volunteering time to the @ioccc infrastructure team. Doubt I'd find work as a Rusty "Go IOCCC!" cheerleader.

I know @nixCraft your posed question was somewhat in jest, but this time trying to finding work in my field I've loved since I was 13 has been hard this cycle: stress'n'tears, along with good food and a gag (not on the food). Living on puppy cuddles and licks (not just likes).

Still looking for Software Developer work in Canada. http://www.snert.com/resume/

@nixCraft I'm a quick learner. I've studied physics, so I could probably pick up where I left off. I'm also pretty good with mechanical things, given that I find a good teacher.
Other than that I can play the guitar reasonably well. 😅

@nixCraft

I have huge sleeping skills. Espacially on the weekend.

@[email protected] Managing stuff. Anything crafty. Also video and image editing if PCs still exist.

@nixCraft I can cook. At least I didn't poison myself over the last ten years. Woodworking and interior design are also on the table. And lastly I'm pretty good at fixing electronic devices.

I can refresh my skills in rock climbing and playing the electric organ or grand piano.

@nixCraft dooing manual labor.

I can join tables as well as build them with an axe 🪓

@nixCraft "Well--well, look. I already told you: I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers dont have to. I have people skills; I AM GOOD AT DEALING WITH PEOPLE. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people??"

@nixCraft If programming is gone that means people finally have learned to state their needs in an unambiguous way and to check if a particular program matches them, regardless of who or what produced it. I doubt this is possible.
@nixCraft gardening including vegetable production (my tomatoes are delicious), woodcrafting, cooking (300 jars in basement better than one app.jar lol), keeping hens.
@nixCraft I can singlehandedly fashion a shipping package for any vaguely cuboid collection of items weighing up to 80lb using just a craft knife, tape, and a random assortment of previously used cardboard boxes.
@nixCraft I'm not a programmer anyway, but I am seriously interested in helping seniors (and others like immigrants, etc) ditch Windows.
@nixCraft i worked as a breakfast cook so i can make great food very fast. also i have done a lot of electrical wiring i my house.
@nixCraft fixing bikes 🚴🏽‍♂️
@nixCraft debugging. Even without code there will be bugs.
@nixCraft gardening and cooking. Cooked for family for 30 years without anyone getting food poisoning.
@nixCraft painting and calligraphy
@nixCraft Good thing I do software testing which will still be needed before things go out into production. I also worked as a Scrum Master, and tend to be a general mentor for more junior members.
@nixCraft Oh, and I did warehouse work when in the Navy

@nixCraft I can do metalworking, woodworking, construction, auto repair, and heavy machinery operation about as well as AIs can program, so quality of work is clearly no barrier to an alternative career.

I'm very good with dogs, beer, and randomly wandering through forests (preferably with dogs and beer). I'm not sure that's a lucrative career path, but it's sure enjoyable.

@nixCraft

I can make sandwiches.
