Alberta is fine, ya'll

"The judge called the move to change the legislation antithetical to the rule of law and democracy."

"The public is entitled to the fruits of this process that has been conducted largely at their expense so that if they are asked to vote on Alberta independence, they have a tool that may help them make sense of the legal dimensions of the secession of Alberta from Canada."

Judge says referendum proposal on Alberta independence would be unconstitutional | CBC News

An Alberta judge says a referendum proposal on Alberta separating from Canada goes against Charter and Treaty rights, in a decision given less than 24 hours after the provincial government introduced legislation that would have ended the court proceeding.

@chris did you read the decision? It guarantees nothing. At least... it doesn't sound substantive to me.

Unless you believe the AB cons will respect historical law in order to flesh out an *entirely new regional legal paradigm*, this means nothing. I remain unconvinced.

The article states they were literally fast tracking legislation to prevent the judge from even having made this statement in the first place.

@chris @Flare

The judge’s decision wasn’t expected for a month yet, but the judge fast-tracked their decision in order to beat the #UCP who were fast-tracking legislation to stop the decision.

We’re fine here in Alberta, just fine… F I N E

@DavidM_yeg @chris @Flare First time caller, long time listener, (new to AB), is it wrong to expect more public Official Opposition to any of these 200x transgressive shenanigans? Am I missing out because I don’t have Insta or read Rick Bell in the Herald? I didn’t think so but the most noise I have seen was from the Teachers. Meanwhile healthcare is falling apart, and notwithstanding Marlaina being treasonous, the UCP is speed running the province into the ground.

@chris @Flare @irfan

I very much would love to have a more … prominent … opposition. On the other hand, there is very little they can practically *do* and “the NDP think the government’s <insert latest thing here> is a dangerous assault on society and democracy” loses on the ‘new’ part of news pretty quickly.
