Heavy thunderstorm day, so rewatching 'Bedazzled' for the first time since forever, probably decades. And a few dated early 2000's product-of-its-time elements aside, it's still a fun casual watch, with an actually solid message by the end.

Elizabeth Hurley as the Devil remains iconic in every scene, and Brendan Fraser's sensitive, awkward nerd vibe continues to occupy a soft spot in my heart.

BEDAZZLED Clip - "Drug Lord" (2000) Brendan Fraser

@fringemagnet Fun movie. I prefer the original with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Just my opinion though.
@catdad Not personally a fan of the casual sexism and objectification of women in the 1967 Bedazzled, I feel the way Elizabeth Hurley's sexuality is portrayed in the 2000 one works a million times better, but to each their own. Honestly apart from the Faustian theme, they are so vastly different in story and tone I can't even compare them.
@fringemagnet The bargain theme is central to both, and how they're played out is different in many ways, given the 33 year gap. The comedy in each is of it's time, and ignoring the flaws, very accessible. Both are fun! Others will have their own opinions, of course. As much as I like the original, Brendan Fraser is brilliant.

@fringemagnet

Those two had awesome chemistry. It's a funny, if slightly dated, movie.

@Jorsh Yep, there are definitely some bits that remind you that this is a 25 year old movie, but overall, and compared to other films of that time, it still holds up.

@fringemagnet

This will always be my Peak Brendan Fraser Movie. The way he throws himself into each variation of his character is hilarious. πŸ˜„

@Sykonee The man went in and gave this film 110% of himself, and nobody can deny him that. 😁
@fringemagnet I loved this movie too
@Billthoo I was bracing myself for disappointment, because I had a few WTF moments rewatching some stuff young me used to enjoy from the 90s/2000s era and realising how much casual racism/sexism/homophobia existed back then, but all things considered this film still holds nicely as campy fun.

Yes, there’s a few of those.
@fringemagnet check out Rental Family! He’s wonderful in it.
@DavidBFox It's been on top of my watchlist ever since I saw the promos, it seems like such a human story. For some reason it's not going to open until early 2026 for a few EU countries including Greece, but I will sure be watching when I finally get the chance.
@fringemagnet heartwarming and quirky. Very fun. Also enjoyed the John Candy documentary.
@DavidBFox Ah good to know, another one for the watchlist. And yeah, that's exactly the vibe I've been getting from 'Rental Family', there's a chance it will hit digital before it even opens here, so I will have to keep checking.
