The office simultaneously released a second report on “the use of unclassified networks & non–#DoD-controlled electronic messaging systems to discuss sensitive & classified information.”

The #Pentagon’s #InspectorGeneral’s report into #PeteHegseth’s use of the #Signal app to share details of upcoming #airstrikes into #Yemen on March 15 found the #defense secy “sent a message containing operational information” to a group chat which included 19 people, including #JeffreyGoldberg, editor in chief of #TheAtlantic. It said that #Hegseth did so FROM HIS HOME on an Army base in Washington while accompanied by “his junior military assistant, & his personal communicator.”

The #Pentagon’s acting #InspectorGeneral found that the head of #US #CENTCOM, which oversaw the impending strikes into #Yemen, sent a secure message to #Hegseth & the acting chair of the #JointChiefs at roughly 9PM on March 14, approximately 17hrs before the op began, containing info about the planned attacks that was #classified as #secret, with no dissemination allowed to foreign nationals.

The report went on to say that the next day #Hegseth sent some of that #classified operational information from his PERSONAL CELLPHONE to the #Signal chat group.

The #InspectorGeneral’s evaluation of #Defense Secy Pete Hegseth’s actions on March 15 were complicated by at least 2 factors. First, the #DoD provided only a partial copy of messages from Hegseth’s cellphone to #Signal because some of messages had “auto-deleted.”
