Six congressional Democrats released a video advising members of the U.S. military to “refuse illegal orders.” Trump posted this was sedition punishable by death.

This week, news reports have alleged that the U.S. military carried out a strike to kill two survivors of an initial missile strike on a boat in the Caribbean.

Fun fact: Firing on shipwrecked survivors is *specifically* called out as an illegal order that service members must refuse.

@augieray "I was just following orders." It didn't work at Nürnberg, and it won't work now.

@c_merriweather @augieray
"Wir haben es nicht gewußt!" isn't a particularly good defence either!

@augieray @kimlockhartga Sure, but that could have been handed directly to Trump and he would a) not read it or b) read it but ignore it because he wants something else to happen anyway.

@reay @augieray @kimlockhartga

What Trump would do with it is immaterial. That's like explaining to Netanyahu that what he's doing is wrong.

When heads of stage engage in war crimes we don't expect them to investigate themselves. It is up to the rest of the world and the international court to stop them before they escalate further.

@augieray Well now we all know why Trump and Hegseth got so ragingly panties-in-a-wad about Mark Kelly reminding the military they have a duty to obey only legal orders, don't we?
@augieray In a few years this will be known as the Hegseth defense: "Sure, your Honor, I gave the illegal order. But I wasn't expecting the soldiers to actually follow an illegal order."
@augieray I wonder what is going through the minds, right now, of the pilots who carried out those orders. Were they eager to follow the orders? Did they think, at the time, they were following legal orders? Are they even aware they were illegal? The latter seems unlikely...fighter pilots are not idiots. They are officers and should be aware of the laws of war. Still, what are they going through now?
