Seems like a good idea, as people have been asking me what Free Software is for the last 25 years!

DAY1 - KDENLIVE
https://kdenlive.org/
Kdenlive is video editing software. I have been using it for 13 years now. I like it better than Adobe Premier Pro because not only does the later have feature creep, but their terms suck, and they make files that are much too big for what I want to do.

Kdenlive - Free and Open Source Video Editor

Kdenlive is the acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor. It works on Linux, Windows, macOS, and BSD.

DAY 2 - AUDACITY
https://www.audacityteam.org/

Audacity is the BOMB!
Audacity is the best audio recording software out there.
I can't list how many years I have been using it, because I used it almost as soon as I started using open source software, and I look forward every year to the time between Christmas Eve and New Years when its logo wears the little Christmas hat. SO CUTE!

Audacity ® | Free Audio editor, recorder, music making and more!

Audacity is the world's most popular audio editing and recording app. Edit, mix, and enhance your audio tracks with the power of Audacity. Download now!

Audacity

Audacity records audio. You connect your mic and it makes a record of the audio that you can combine with different tracks. Increase and decrease volume. Fix pops and mistakes. Equalize. Compress. And there are some filters. I use it for everything, but mostly editing voice recordings of a single voice.

It is straightforward and easy to use, and can work directly with WAV files or make MP3s, etc.

When #vidding, I often edit the audio track in audacity for length before using.

Audacity is destructive in its editing, but they've introduced some modifications so that you are less likely to be unable to undo what you did.
The opensource alternative is Ardour ( https://ardour.org/ ) which is excellent for multitrack non-destructive recordings, but is more tuned to music recording than voice.
I really find Audacity to be the best for simple voice centered recordings, and when I did use Ardour to make projects, I would still record in Audacity first.

The open-source cross-platform digital audio workstation

Ardour DAW

I don't usually push open source software on my Windows workplace, but when I was given a laptop to use for work, I MADE them put Audacity on it. I use it that often, and none of the other voice recorders work as well.

I've recorded on my phone with sound apps, but I find it hard to copy the files, or transfer them into different formats. Also, I've used websites for recording. None of them have the ease of workflow Audacity has, and so it is hands down my dominant recording program.

Now it has problems. The way it saves data is one. It used to have all these little files, that if you moved any of them out of place, it would fail horribly and you couldn't recover it, but now they have a .aup3 container file that carts all of those files together, and I haven't yet had a problem with the new format. Even so, I have some old lost recordings that I will probably never recover.

There is also the destructive element, which means that some modification can't be undone.

But for stability, support, and just for how long this project has been around, it really is worth it. In fact, it should be hyped more than it has been in my opinion.

I used audacity to make podcasts and podfic from around 2010? 2012? can't remember, but it is simple enough to start, and flexible enough to have fun with. Recommended.

Anyway, here is a racy little podfic I recorded a long time ago using it.
