My attempt at a snail, carved in lime wood, I think. Inspired by lissachatina fulica, the giant African land snail. #woodcarving #mollusc
@thaliart excellent use of the grain 🤎
@Cognissart Thank you - that was totally accidental!
@thaliart
That's so cool 😍

@thaliart Nice work👍

Those Eye Stalks😬

Do them first and hope you don't break them while working on the rest. Do them last and hope they come out okay🤔 Decisions, decisions... 😉

@lfisk Exactly, I did have a slightly more ambitious design but kept breaking the tentacles. Simplified it but still broke one and had to glue it back! I think on balance leaving til last is probably easiest...

@thaliart I would be sorely tempted to drill some holes and then use something un-wood like but aesthetically pleasing in them😉

We have a Myrtle Wood carving (purchased) that I knocked off a table years ago. It broke the feet off landing on carpet🙄

Even if you manage to carve such features they'll always be fragile to handling and oopsies🤷‍♂️

@thaliart Oh, the way the wood grain looks on the shell is goegeous
@thaliart woww it's so great. And the wood grain on the shell! 😍
