I have not been able to successfully make a clap like that. Sure, I can make one, but it never seems to work right. I lean heavily on manufactured lobster claps for bracelets. At this point, it's one of the few things I don't make by hand.

I'm not sure if this will help but I make the bar portion longer than necessary and then trim it later in order to get the proper fit for the clasp. It's tricky to make those clasps work properly, so they don't come apart unintentionally but once I started doing that, it worked for me.
