Yesterday was the local charity fireworks display, in a field in front of Kenilworth Castle. It's years since we went; crammed with 10,000 people in a muddy field for an hour is not fun. I meant to take my camera out & get reflections of fireworks in the local lake; didn't work out, for "life" reasons. So then I thought I'd post an older fireworks photo for Silent Sunday, but no, d'oh! So here's that photo instead.

@carusb they make a nice diptych!
@tmcfarlane I didn't realise they'd pretty much be in eye contact when I loaded them!
@carusb the angle of the steps on the right nicely matches the angle of the building on the left and they almost run together too which joins the two frames. I'd totally try and print or frame those together. It appears as a conversation through a huge gap in time (sort of is, but isn't too)

@carusb did I ask you what your home scanner setup is yet? If not, what is your home scanner setup?

(I followed a bunch of analog photography folks at once and I’m getting them slightly mixed up in my head)

Also you are inspiring me to try HC-110 (although I would go with Adox 110 since they changed HC-110)

@crazybutable I have a Plustek 7500i for 135 and an Epson V500 for 120, both driven by Vuescan Pro. I did buy a Plustek 8200i to take over from the old one, but I was a victim of a silent model change that meant it no longer worked properly with Vuescan (and Plustek wouldn't- then- license them the library that would work). After a huge argument I got the supplier to take it back.

I've been using this bottle of Kodak HC-110 since October 2018. Just about to move on to the Adox HC-110!

@crazybutable Interestingly I learned from Johnny Martyr's blog post (https://johnnymartyr.wordpress.com/2025/05/27/adox-hc110-fpp-110-why-you-might-want-to-use-an-alternative-to-kodak-hc110/) that Kodak has currently lost control of the HC-110 brand name to that Chinese company! Apparently Adox has a licence...

EDIT: I started on Ilfosol 3 and also have used Adox FX39 II for lower ISO films but I don't plan to ditch HC-110, ever!

ADOX HC110, FPP-110 & Why You Might Want To Use An Alternative to Kodak HC110

Kodak’s recent HC110 reformulation faces scrutiny regarding shelf-life and crystallization issues, prompting users to explore alternative developers.

The Thoughts & Photography of Johnny Martyr
@crazybutable And PPS I also use a #Rondinax35U tank and a #Labbox set up for 120, since an accident a dozen years ago limits the mobility of my right hand, making it basically impossible to load an ordinary reel! (The Lab-box can also be set up for 135, but it's a PITA to change...)

@carusb I have developed a sensitivity to film developers so I’ve been using caffenol exclusively for the past 15-20 years. That said, I also get inconsistent results

It’s probably temperature control? But I like the idea of getting some hc-110 (never tried it) and a syringe and some nitrile gloves (never tried developing with gloves on, except for tray development a couple of times) and seeing just how careful and repeatable I can make things

@carusb but IDK, I have a box of film rolls that have been exposed over 5-15 years ago (the backlog, as it were) and I just got all of my film stuff collected and I just got one roll developed so far. I don’t have a single unexpired (in some way) roll of film in the house

Also still a 1/4 inch of dust in the darkroom. Very much operating on “muscle memory” and not recent experience

The goal is 5x7 sheet film contact prints. I have a long ways to go

@crazybutable I don't have a darkroom, just a dark bag, normally not even needed with those tanks. Not sure about long ago exposed film though. You might need some better advice on that!
@crazybutable I _always_ use gloves when devving!
@carusb I never did and that’s how I got the developer sensitivity
@carusb also those little tanks look pretty cool
@carusb that is crazy, and now I am much better informed

@carusb

And did you stay on the sunken lane, or explore the higher ground?

@grb090423 I think on this occasion I did explore to the left. There are some rather steep slopes to navigate, a little slick with the leaf mulch, so not an everyday route.

@carusb

Excellent 👍

Thank you for satisfying my curiosity 🙂

@carusb that’s so cool

With my glasses off it looks like reality is being warped

@crazybutable Thanks John. It's funny, the reactions are helping me see more!
@carusb Very nice shot! And you're getting great tonality from Kenmere 200 here.
@simon_diamond Thanks Simon. K200 continues to surprise me, in a good way; not doing anything special, just normal box metering!
@carusb I like it a lot too! Looking forward to shooting more of it, and trying the medium format.
