this question brought to you by @giflian’s theory:
@[email protected] I have a very unscientific theory that you can tell someone is autistic with just a few questions, the biggest one being “what is your favourite spoon”. There are TikTok videos of people doing spoon reviews (showing their favourite spoon, or a spoon they hate) and I’d like to pretend I inspired that but no such proof exists. I heard autistic people may have smaller palates than the average neurotypical person, which might explain why a certain shape or size would be important for those with ‘tism rizz, but I’m too lazy to look for any research. I have a small mouth and small teeth, so big spoons might as well be shovels to me. I probably need to ask some obviously-neurotypical people the spoon question to see what answers they give. The fediverse is pretty neurodivergent compared to the population average. Can you post a photo of said spoon and knife? Not for diagnosis, I’m just curious now.
@phillmv No that's silly.
I have a favorite _fork_. The one on the bottom has shorter tines than the rest, this is the "princess fork" and I pick it when I want to feel like a little princess
@phillmv Of course I don't. I love all of our spoons equally. Because they're all identical. Who could possibly tolerate having varied cutlery?
(I think that still answers your question, doesn't it? 😅)
@phillmv I'm not home to grab a pic but there's a butterknife we found behind the fridge at our old house that's got a more comfortable handle and a better curve on the blade than all the rest
I think it's everyone in the house's favorite butterknife though and we're not all autistic
@phillmv okay I don't have a picture but generally the IKEA Dragon 7" spoon.
Unless it's for soup.
@phillmv Since I started this…
I don’t remember a time before I had this spoon, and even though I had a bad time working for Disney it’s not the spoon’s fault. This Mickey would never hurt me.
The bowl is small but not too small. Mickey provides extra handle for grip without making it heavy or unbalanced. The Mickey design being deeply etched into the steel makes it a bit of a stim toy too.
@phillmv I have only one of this spoon (and a, one, similarly good other one), they are probably from a friend’s gran’s old household or so, but they beat anything newer. Decent metal, dishwasher safe, not too thin and no sharp corners to cut the edge of the mouth with.
No favourite knife but a favourite type of knife.
Attached: 1 image @[email protected] I meant square-ish / rectangular shaped, like this is the ideal shape for me, with a very flat tip and not pointy at all, not anything too unusual
I have a favourite knife and fork 🍴 they are an extremely cheap stamped steel disposable set from a cafe. I don’t know why, they are just the right ones. I will wash them between meals so I know that they are ready and available for use at my next meal. I will be upset if I can’t find them and if someone else in the house uses them.
I have a stand-in favourite spoon that doesn’t match this fork and knife set, but I often fantasise about finding a spoon that matches the fork and knife.
