@platypus I was just thinking the same thing but for in Star Wars when they refuse to let the droids into the bar on Mos Eisley

@nash @platypus well, there was a war in recent memories where half the combatants were droids.

mind you, I think in lore clones also got the short end of the stick after the war

@kyonshi @nash @platypus I always thought it was more because the droids can't drink human drinks (or maybe they don't drink), so they're not paying customers but they're taking up space that could be occupied by paying customers. (There's a droid 'bar' in one of the episodes of The Mandalorian that definitely isn't serving anything humans can have.)

Though I've also seen the theory that it's because in addition to all their other potential functions, any droid could also be a surveillance device, and a lot of people in that particular bar value their privacy.

(But yes, the clones got treated pretty badly post-war canonically, even if you don't consider The Bad Batch to be canonical or representative of the average clone trooper's postwar experience.

Depending on how canon you consider some other sources, a lot of the surplus droids were 'acquired' and reprogrammed for various purposes post-war, though the majority got recycled for parts.)

@dartigen @kyonshi @nash @platypus Robot bar in my first thought:
@platypus If anything gets me to smash a computer with a tool it's AI integration...
@platypus oh one hundred percent.
@platypus oh yeah I find myself in the same territory. I never wanted to hate computers! I wanted robot pals and shit when I was a young foal! but uuuggghh yeah okay you got me there's something really Bad about people getting intoxicated with duplicating the human mind...and it doesn't help that these same people don't *really* seem to be all that good at thinking and have strange ideas about how _humans_ think...

@platypus

Its a common theme in #Scifi ; AI robots had been banned at some point in the past for being incompatible with human civilization. Currently reading #Hyperion by Dan Simmons where Robot AIs are banned. Then there is #Foundation, Robot AIs banned...

@platypus I'd have a custom T-shirt saying something like "Butlerian Jihad 2025" if that didn't have some other real world connotations.

@platypus

There's never a Butlerian jihad around when you need one.

I'm gonna get this whole town PREGNANT β€” me as a kid reading Dune: I appreciate the...

@platypus the fact that he got this in 1965 is just crazy to me.
