A recent analysis of online dating habits reveals that while deception is prevalent, it is typically minor when individuals communicate prior to meeting face-to-face. Conducted by David Markowitz, an assistant professor at the University of Oregon, along with his colleague Jeff Hancock, the research involved over 200 users of dating apps who shared actual message exchanges from the time after matching but before an in-person meeting, a phase the researchers refer to as the "discovery phase."
